Tips for Effective Networking

  • Be aware of your strengths, challenges, likes and dislikes. Knowing what you would like to do helps ensure that your job search remains focused.

  • Research industries that employ individuals in your field.

  • Choose contacts based on information – not position.

  • Give without expectation. Networking is not about asking for favours. Successful networkers give as much as they receive.

  • Follow up on leads and provide updates on what happened to the contact who made the referral.

  • Say thank you to everyone in your network for their time and help.
