$2,500 Award for Food Companies

Hire a Co-op Student 

Maintaining Canada’s prominence in the food industry by investing in future leaders is the aim of the new Guelph Food Technology Centre (GFTC) Legacy Fund supporting the University of Guelph - Canada's Food University. 

Highlights include:

  • A dozen co-op student work terms within the food industry will be supported in 2018 (which is the final summer for this special funding)

  • Each award will be in the amount of $2,500 and will be used to partially offset salary costs for the participating companies

  • Awards will be granted at the successful completion of each co-op work term

  • In addition to this funding, Ontario-based companies may also claim the Ontario Co-op Tax Credit of up to $3,000 per work term when hiring a co-op student. Click here to view a full list of co-op programs at Guelph. 

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Food processing, manufacturing or distribution company in Canada

  • Companies must post, interview and hire a co-op student through the University of Guelph Co-operative Education & Career Services Department

  • Students from all University of Guelph co-op programs are eligible

  • If the company has hired co-op students from the University of Guelph in the past, awards will only be granted for newly created co-op roles (never posted or hired a University of Guelph co-op student into this role)

  • Each company, posting and funding eligibility is subject to approval of the University of Guelph Co-operative Education & Career Services Department
