Networking! Try to introduce yourself to everyone in the workplace and make an effort to learn their names and positions. These are the people who will be working alongside you and collaborating with you each day. If you see them only occasionally, you will have an idea of who they are and will be able to maintain a connection with them just by saying “Hello”, as you pass by each other, or discuss what you are each working on. By making meaningful and genuine connections with your coworkers, you will successfully establish a network of people who could act as mentors, provide you with a reference letter in the future, or even help you advance throughout your career path.

Practice Punctuality. Arrive ten to fifteen minutes early each day in order to settle into your workspace. This will give you extra time to organize your goals and familiarize yourself with the tasks that need to be completed for the day. This can also be a good opportunity to converse with your coworkers about what you are each working on, and to offer help or ask questions. This demonstrates that you care about the work being done, you are happy to be there and you are establishing a meaningful work relationship with your coworkers.

Showing Initiative. Demonstrating that you are eager and interested in the tasks of the job is easy and only takes a few steps! You can do this simply by asking questions and suggesting new ideas or perspectives you may have. This shows that you are passionate about your work, and most importantly that you value your coworkers and your company. Everyone enjoys working with people who are involved and active in their role, which contributes to a strong team and company morale.
